The Box and the stone belonged to a man named Zhu xi zhou, who dates back more than five hundred years ago in Ming dynasty.

The decorations carved on the cover are a poem by Wang chang ling, who lived in Tang dynasty, and three stamps from the owner. It is one of the traditional ways to decorate a ink box like this.

The three stamps are used to enrich the decorations and to claim ownership. From these stamps we can know a little about this stationary: First, who the owner is. Second, this would have been one of his informal ink boxes which was used during his leisure time. We can guess that his formal ink box may have been more intricate or made with finer materials.
