本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛A baby born in China to a Canadian parent is automatically Canadian. But it will be necessary to apply for a Canadian Citizenship Certificate for the baby first.
Normally you may have to apply for a citizenship certificate before applying for a passport. Acording to our policy, the family – parents and child – is to make an application in person at the Consular office, for a Canadian Citizenship Certificate after the birth of the child. All original documents have to be presented at the time of application and will be returned to the applicants. For detailed information, please see our website for Citizenship application (http://geo.international.gc.ca/asia/china/consular/shanghai/citizenship-services-en.asp).
Please note that the issuance of a Citizenship Certificate can take up to 18 months, therefore, parents are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible. Incomplete packages will not be processed until all required supporting documents are submitted. The Consular offices overseas may also ask for additional supporting documentation should the original packages be incomplete or if there are discrepancies in the information provided.
Before your child gets the citizenship card, if you have any emergency travel requirement , a 2 -year non-extendable limited validity passport may be issued to him/ her based on a flight ticket or a travel itinerary. Please see our website for Passport application for your information (http://geo.international.gc.ca/asia/china/consular/shanghai/passport_service-en.asp).
As to the Health Card and SIN card, you can only apply once you return to Canada.
Our opearation hour is from 13:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday. The Consulate will be closed on Friday December 25, 2009 and Monday December 28, 2009 for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Friday January 1, 2010 for New Year's Day.
Hope above information helps.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
